Lately, I’ve been sitting with a feeling I can’t quite name.
It’s not pride.
It’s not success.
It’s something quieter than that… something deeper.
I keep remembering the days when I just wanted to be heard.
Walking into local community centres with no title, no spotlight, just a heart full of intention.
Speaking to whoever would give me a moment—the managers, the local leaders, anyone who cared enough to listen.
I wasn’t trying to impress anyone.
I just wanted to talk about real things.
About how we reach our young people.
How we guide them, not lecture them.
How we speak their language without losing our own.
Back then, it was just me and a message.
No stage. No microphone. No book.
Just a deep belief that change starts with a conversation, and someone willing to have it.
Most of the time, they weren’t even interested.
They barely listened. Some didn’t even look up to acknowledge I was in the room.
It felt like talking to the brick walls of the Great Wall of China.
So, I stopped.
I went out and did it myself.
Over the years, I have sat with countless amounts of young people.
I listened to them.
I believed in them.
And slowly, it grew.
First it was with the youths.
Then adults.
Then businesses.
Then companies, brands, organisations,
And eventually, government bodies.
And now, somehow, here I am.
In rooms I never imagined I could step into.
Whispering into the ears of the people who were once deaf to people like me.
Sometimes I pause and think,
How many young Black men from Brixton do you know who are heard by leaders and powerful people across the globe?
Not because they’re shouting.
Not because they’re marching in force.
But because they’re whispering.
Because the truth carried in my whisper is louder than a tannoy.
That thought humbles me every time.
This mission I’m on,
It’s bigger than a room.
Bigger than a city.
Bigger than a country.
It’s about reaching 8 billion people.
Building up 8 billion people.
Helping to heal 8 billion people.
Inspiring 8 billion people.
How you may ask?
There are 196 countries in the world, 193 of them are members of the UN, (Hmm, imagine getting in with UN members, anyway) 2 have observer status, and there are a few others with their own flags, borders, and people to lead.
Now think about this:
Every single one of those countries has leaders. And inside each of those nations, there more leaders, running regions, cities, communities.
Then you’ve got the business world, Over 370,000 subsidiaries of multinational companies worldwide. All with decision-makers. Influencers. People in power.
Now here’s where it gets interesting…
There’s a theory about the Six Degrees of Separation.
This is my soliloquy moment; the theory is that anyone on this planet is just six connections away from anyone else.
Think about that.
If I know 30 people, and each of them knows 30 more, and that chain keeps going,
In just six steps, I could be connected to anyone in the world. Now imagine me influencing 30 powerful people, people of true power, I am six steps away from influencing anyone in the world.
That’s the scale I’m talking about.
This world holds nearly 8 billion people.
Let’s look at how they’re spread out:
• Asia holds 60% of the population
• Africa, 17-20%
• Europe, 10%
• Latin America and the Caribbean, 8%
• North America, 5%
• Oceania, just 0.5%
And the top 10 most populated countries?
• India: 1.46 billion
• China: 1.41 billion
• United States: 346 million
• Indonesia: 285 million
• Pakistan: 254 million
• Nigeria: 236 million
• Brazil: 212 million
• Bangladesh: 175 million
• Russia: 144 million
• Ethiopia: 134 million
This could feel overwhelming.
But here’s the beauty,
One voice, one message, can still find its way.
Because when it’s real, when it’s rooted in truth, people feel it.
Sometimes, a whisper carries further than a shout ever could.
That’s what I’ve learned.
I never needed a stage to be loud.
I just needed to touch people emotionally.
And that, Dear Diary, I will always do.
Love Kevin
