Can you believe that I won The Power Of A Man award for my work in mental health?
Even writing that feels strange.
I never did this for awards. I did it because I had to. Because I knew what it felt like to carry pain quietly. Because I’ve seen what silence does to people.
When they told me I was being recognised, I didn’t feel proud straight away. I felt… still. It brought back faces, names, stories people I’ve sat with, listened to, held space for. The ones who reached out. The ones who couldn’t.
I thought about where it all started. The people who shaped me. The things I’ve seen. The communities I’ve walked through. The losses. The weight. The resilience.
This award isn’t just mine.
It belongs to everyone who’s ever broken down behind closed doors.
Everyone who was told to “get on with it.”
Everyone who thought no one cared if they fell apart.
I’m grateful. But I’m not celebrating me.
I’m thinking about how many more we still need to reach.
How many more are suffering in silence.
How much work there still is to do.
They called it The Power of a Man.
But to me, power is showing up. Power is listening.
Power is staying when it’s uncomfortable.
Power is being the kind of man who doesn’t look away.
Thank you to everyone who voted for me to be a Power Of A Man!
Love Kevin
