God is good.
It took me a decade of research to write Who Helps The Helpline, When The Helpline Needs HELP? Then almost two years to bring it all together during the pandemic.
Back then, the world was uncertain. No one knew if they would live or die. If they would travel again. If they would hug their parents again. For millions, those fears became a reality.
Lives were lost. Families were torn apart. Many are still recovering.
So, as I sat writing, editing, shaping, and revising, I had no idea what the future held for my book and I. I just knew I had to finish it.
What I didn’t expect, was two plus years later for John Lewis to reach out and ask me to not just sign a few copies, but to do a month-long book signing within their store. And not just that but to be the face of their store. Imagine that.
You walk through the doors of John Lewis, and right there, next to their branding, signage, and windows you see me. My book. My adventure. My 10 years of research. My late nights. My publishing battles. My cover drafts. My uploads. My mistakes. My wins. All of it.
They told me that many of their customers were people working in some of the most pressured jobs in the UK. They knew my book served people in roles like:
High-Stress Occupations:
– Enlisted military personnel
– Firefighters
– Physicians
– Police officers
– Pilots
– Senior executives
– Paramedics
– Construction workers
– Mental health professionals
Roles with the Highest Depression Rates:
– Nurses and care workers
– Teachers
– Social workers
– Artists and writers
– Hospitality and food service staff
– Admin support
– Groundskeepers
– Accountants
– Salespeople
Occupations Linked to the Highest Suicide Rates:
– Surgeons
– Dentists
– Police officers
– Financial services
– Farmers
– Real estate agents
– Electricians
– Scientists
– Veterans and serving military personnel
And during that month in the store, something beautiful happened.
Hundreds of people didn’t just come to buy a copy of my book.
They came to talk.
To offload.
To cry.
To feel heard.
I can’t tell you how many conversations I had.
How many people said, “I’ve never told anyone this before…”
Or, “You’ve put words to something I didn’t know how to express.”
I sold hundreds of books, yes.
But that wasn’t the real win.
The win was creating a space where people could just be human, without fear of judgement.
There were moments I had to even fight back my tears.
Stay composed.
Stay professional.
Because I realised this wasn’t just about me or the book.
It was about us.
It reminded me that when you write or speak from a place of truth and love, it reaches people where it matters the most. Their truth, pain, hurt, and love.
And you never really know how far that ripple will go.
I started writing this book with nothing but a vision, a prayer, and a laptop.
Now, it’s helping lives.
Not because I’m special, but because when you serve something higher than yourself, the right doors open.
I want to say a massive thank you to John Lewis for not just supporting my book, but for believing in the message behind it. The person behind it, the passion behind it.
Together, we didn’t just sell books.
We created a quiet little sanctuary right in the middle of retail.
You never know where the road will take you.
Just walk it with purpose.
Do the work.
Serve from the heart. Love God, believe in God,
And let God do the rest.
Love Kevin
