Introduction:

Kevin Bennett: Mental and Emotional Strategist

Who is Kevin Bennett?

Kevin Bennett is a survivor and a testament to resilience. He has endured four separate stabbings, one of which left him resuscitated after flatlining. By the age of 22, he had already faced the tragic deaths of his brother, who was shot and killed, and his son. Since then, he has navigated the loss of two more siblings and his father’s battle with cancer, among other life-altering experiences.

Kevin’s journey began in Brixton, South London, during the 80s and 90s-a time marked by high unemployment, civil unrest, and elevated rates of knife and gun crime. Every day was like Russian roulette, with angry and broken people unpredictably exploding with unresolved traumas. Despite these harsh conditions, Kevin developed a passion for education from a young age. His father was the family’s educator, while his mother worked tirelessly as a nurse at The Great Ormond Street Hospital. Both parents maintained traditional roles rooted in their Caribbean heritage.
Kevin’s earliest memories of education involve watching with immense love as his father taught his five older siblings.

They took turns sitting on their father’s lap or beside him, learning to read and spell words that seemed magical to Kevin. His father employed phonological, visual, morphemic, and etymological methods to enhance their knowledge. Eagerly anticipating his turn, Kevin prepared with his siblings’ Speak & Spell computer. However, just before his fifth birthday, his parents separated and eventually divorced, leaving Kevin without his primary educator and authority figure.
